'make your own' martini bar

i love this idea. arrange all the ingredients and let people create their martini as they move along.

lavender lemonade

i plan to make this sometime soon...

as seen on the Sunday Suppers blog. the whole blog is well worth a look - creative recipes, delicious food and beautiful photographs

* 2 cups sugar
* 5 sprigs lavender (stems and buds), plus additional for garnish
* 2 cups fresh lemon juice (from about 10 lemons)
* 1/2 cup fresh lime juice (from about 4 limes)

Directions:

In a large saucepan, bring one gallon of water and the sugar to a boil. Remove from heat; add 7 lavender sprigs and lemon and lime juices. Cool to room temperature, strain, and chill. Serve on ice, with additional lavender for garnish.

what's the catch?

i think this is a fantastic photo. as seen on rob's food photography posterous blog (http://eatpictures.posterous.com/)

    rob says:

Not strictly food photography.  But you could argue it's about to be.

Took this photo on holiday this time last year.  We were on the harbour beach in Shaldon, at the mouth of the River Teign in South Devon.

At low tide a fisherman rows a boat out into the mouth of the estuary, paying out a long line of fishing net (possibly called a seine net?) in a huge arc, like an enormous circular curtain below the surface of the water.

Three fisherman then gather the ends of the net on the shore, and slowly draw the ropes in - hand over hand - one hauling each end, and the man in the middle pulling a centre rope connected to the bottom of the net.

Slowly, slowly the circle of net becomes smaller and smaller until they bring in a catch of wild salmon in the last pocket of net still in the water.

unfortunately i have no reference for these beautiful creatures. i think i saw them for sale on etsy but forgot to note the source.

knitted fry up

while searching for knitted food patterns online, i came across this from a jackie annual, 1979. why not take a knitted fry up one step further and wear it? inspirational.
